********** METHOD # 1 ***************

Right click on your desktop and choose "New=>shortcuts".
In the box that says "Type the location of the shortcut",
type in "shutdown -s -t 3600" without the quotation marks and click next. Note: 3600 are the amount of seconds before your computer shuts down. So , 60secs*60mins=3600secs.

Make up a name for the shortcut and you're done.
You can change the icon by right clicking=>properities=>change icon=>browse
TO ABORT:
To make an abort key to stop the shutdown timer just create another shortcut and make
the "location of the shortcut" to " shutdown -a" without the quotes.

Here is another trick to shutdown at a specific time, for example you wish to shutdown at 11:35am. Type this in

start=>Run

Type Code: at 07:45 shutdown -s

This free utility is for those persons who are using BSNL DataOne broadband connection, Plan - Home 500, Home 500 C, Home 500 Combo plus etc (or any other connection which uses ADSL Router and having the "free usage time" concept) and wan't to utilize the free usage time  efficiently.

Recently my brother gets a broadband connection from BSNL, under the plan he opted, BSNL says that you are free to download/upload any amount of data during 02:00 - 08:00 hrs.

One day my brother started his modem at 10:30 PM an visited some web pages during next one hour or so, and after 02:15 AM he started some big downloads, then switched off the modem at 06:30 AM, but at the end of the month, can you guess what BSNL has done, yes you probably can expect such things from BSNL They have shown that you have downloaded 2200 MB of data from 10:30 PM - 06:30 Am, and because the time 10:30 Pm does not fall under free time so all the data is chargeable.

Honestly saying, since they are providing the "free usage time" offer, it is their responsibility to maintain the usage detail of Free/Non Free times.

The above incidence motivated me to build this S/W, I have used this S/W it is quite reliable and can help you to fully utilize the free usage time without getting into the above mentioned trouble.

एक ताने ने बसा दिया अलबेला-मस्ताना शहर बीकानेर

कभी-कभी एक ताना भी एक नए राज्य की स्थापना का कारण बन जाता है। इसका सहज अनुमान लगाना मुश्किल है लेकिन यह सत्य है कि बीकानेर नगर की स्थापना के पीछे एक ताना ही था जिसका जवाब देने के लिए बीकानेर एक राज्य बन गया। इतिहास में उल्लेखित घटना इस बात का प्रमाण है कि एक बार जोधपुर नरेश जोधा सिंह अपने दरबार में बैठे थे। उन्होंने राजकुमार बीका को अपने काका कांधल से कानाफूसी करते और मुस्कराते देखा तो उन्होंने ताना देते हुए कहा कि काका-भतीजा दोनों ऐसे मुस्करा रहे हैं जैसे कोई नया गढ़ बसाने जा रहे हों, फिर क्या था, राजपूती खून तैश में आ गया और बीका सिंह राजपूती शान से जोधपुर नरेश के सामने गर्व से बोले कि क्या मुश्किल है। बीका तो नया राज बसा के ही दिखायेगा। नापा सांखला जो पहले जांगल प्रदेश के शासक थे, जिन्हें बलुचियों ने वहां से हटा दिया था। वह दरबार में उपस्थित थे, उन्होंने भी व्यंग्य का जवाब दिया। बीका जंगलू जीते। नया प्रदेश जीतने की दृढ़ इच्छा के साथ राव बीका अपने चाचा कांधल और नापा सांखला के साथ 30 सितम्बर 1435 को मारवाड़ से रवाना हुए। इस समय बीका के साथ एक सौ सवार और 500 पैदल सैनिक थे। राव बीका ने अपनी शूर वीरता और साहस से आसपास के जाटों सांखलो और भाटियों को हरा कर इस रेगिस्तानी भू-भाग का काफी क्षेत्र अपने अधिकार में ले लिया। वह देशनोक पहुंचे, वहां करणी माता मंदिर में अपनी श्रद्धा अर्पित की।

कहा जाता है कि बाद में राव बीका अपने काफिले सहित कोडमदेसर गांव पहुंचे। वहां नेरिया जाट अपनी भेड़-बकरियां चरा रहा था। गडरिए को राव बीका ने अपना मंतव्य बताया। गडरिए ने स्पष्ट कहा कि मैं आपको वो स्थान बता सकता हंू जो नए राज्य की स्थापना के लिए बेहतरीन है लेकिन नए राज्य के साथ आपको मेरा नाम भी जोडऩा होगा। राव बीका ने उसकी शर्त मान ली। नेरिया बीकाजी के साथ राती घाटी पहुंचा और एक स्थान पर जाकर कहा कि यही वह उपयुक्त स्थल है। गडरिए ने इस पर अपना स्पष्टीकरण देते हुए कहा कि वह यहां भेड़ बकरियां चराने आया करता है। एक दिन उसके रेवड़ से एक भेड़ बिछुड़ कर यहां रह गई और रात्रि में उसी भेड़ ने इसी स्थान पर एक केर के पेड़ के पास बच्चे जन्मे, उस रात भेडियों ने आक्रमण कर उसके बच्चों को खाना चाहा परंतु उस भेड़ ने भेडियों का सामना इतनी दृढ़ता से किया कि भेडि़ए आखिर भाग गये। प्रात:काल गडरिया जब अपनी भेड़ को ढूंढ़ता हुआ यहां पहुंचा तो लहुलूहान भेड़ को अपने बच्चों की सुरक्षा करते हुए पाया। गडरिए ने कहा कि जिस स्थान पर भेड़ जैसे डरपोक जानवर में इतनी शक्ति आ जाए, वह स्थान भला राज्य के लिए कैसे उपयुक्त नहीं होगा। यही वो भूमि है। राव बीका ने गडरिए की बात को तुरंत मान लिया और उसी स्थान पर बीकानेर स्थापना के आदेश दे दिए और राज्य के नाम के आगे प्रथम दो अक्षर स्वयं के नाम के और बाद के दो अक्षर नेरिया के नाम से मिलाकर वैसाख मास शुक्ल पक्ष की द्वितीया विक्रम संवत 1545 से बीकानेर राज्य की स्थापना हुई।
पनरे सौ पैतालवे सुद वैसाख सुमेर, थावर वीच थरपियों बीको बीकानेर : राव बीका की विक्रम संवत 1561 में मृत्यु के बाद उसके दस बेटों में राव नरू ने बीकानेर की राजगद्दी प्राप्त की लेकिन अपने पांच महीनों के ही अल्प शासनकाल में उन्होंने राव बीका की ओर से तलवार की शक्ति से जीती गई भूमि के अनेक भागों पर अपना अधिकार खो दिया। राजगद्दी प्राप्त होने के पांच माह बाद ही राव नरू का देहांत हो गया। जब राव नरू का छोटा भाई राव लूणकरण उत्ताराधिकारी बना। लेकिन राज्य के विस्तार की लालसा में नारनोल के नवाब से युद्ध की घोषणा कर दी। नारनोल के नवाब की मदद के लिए जैसलमेर राव आए। युद्ध के दौरान लूणकरण वीर गति को प्राप्त हुआ। 1570 ई. में राज्य की उभरती साम्राज्यवादी मुगल शक्ति के साथ संधि हुई। मुगल शक्ति के सरंक्षण में यहां के शासकों ने विशेषकर राजा रामसिंह ने न केवल विद्रोही सामन्तों की शक्ति को कुचला बल्कि अधीनस्थ शक्तियों का भी पूरी तरह से दमन किया। उस काल में न केवल रामसिंह ने नए दुर्ग का निर्माण किया बल्कि साहित्य और कला के क्षेत्र में भी उल्लेखनीय प्रगति हुई। रामसिंह की ओर से संवत 1630 में बनाया गया मैदानी दुर्ग जूनागढ़ आज भी अपनी शान शौकत से अतीत की कहानी कह रहा है। बीकानेर एक अर्से से इस क्षेत्र की रियासतों में अग्रणी रहा है। यहां के महाराजा चाहे वह डूंगरसिंह रहे हों या गंगासिंह या फिर सार्दुलसिंह सभी ने इस रियासत को सजाने, संवारने एवं प्रभावशाली रियासत बनाने का हरसंभव प्रयास किया। बीकानेर में महाराजा गंगासिंह का शासनकाल स्वर्णकाल माना गया। उनके अथक प्रयासों से बीकानेर में नए युग का सूत्रपात हुआ। गंगासिंह एक कुशल प्रशासक और श्रेष्ठ राजनीतिज्ञ थे, उनके अथक प्रयासो से बीकानेर विश्व के मानचित्र पर आ गया। उन्होंने न केवल इम्पीरियल बार कांफ्रेंस और पेरिस शांति सम्मेलन में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया बल्कि राष्ट्र संघ में उनकी जोरदार अपील के नतीजतन भारत को स्थान मिला। बीकानेर स्थापना दिवस को बीकानेरवासी बड़े धूमधाम से मनाते हैं। राव बीकाजी संस्थान और जिला प्रशासन की ओर से संयुक्त रूप से राव बीकाजी की टेकरी पर उनके माल्यार्पण के साथ रंगारंग कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत किए जाते हैं। बीकानेर के ही एक वासी विश्वविद्यालय रोजगार सूचना एवं मार्गदर्शन केन्द्र के कलाकार नगेन्द्र किराडू कहते हैं बीकानेर स्थापना दिवस की खुशी में इस दिन घर की छतों पर जबदरस्त पंतगबाजी होती है। एक तरह से मानो तो आखाबीज व आखातीज को पूरा बीकानेर ‘आसमा्य’ या यूं कहें कि घर की छतों पर होता है।  इस दौरान घर-घर में खीचड़ा बनाया जाता है और इमली का पानी ‘इम्लानीÓ खाकर-पीकर खुशी का इजहार किया जाता है।
बीकानेर की पाटा संस्कृति की मिसाल  कहीं नहीं : बीकानेर शहर में पाटा संस्कृति को बीकानेर शहर की विरासत कहा जाए तो अतिश्योक्ति नहीं होगी और यह संस्कृति यहां के वाशिंदों की समृद्ध सोच और सभी तरह के विषयों में गहरी पकड़ को साबित करती है।

शहर के विभिन्न चौक व मोहल्लों में पाटे पर बैठकर लोग देर रात्रि तक चर्चा करते हैं। पाटा के मायने हैं तख्ते और दिन में इन तख्तों पर जो चर्चाएं होती हैं उसमें नगर निगम बीकानेर के वार्ड या मोहल्ले से लेकर बराक ओबामा के पैकेज तक चर्चा की जाती है और उसमें भी बहस काफी मुखर मुकाम पर पहुंची हुई होती है। इस चर्चा में 18-20 वर्ष का युवा जहां भागीदार रहता है तो 80-90 वर्ष के बुजुर्ग भी उसी मुस्तैदी से इसमें भाग लेते हैं। जब होली के दिन आते हैं इन्हीं पाटों पर दिन ढलने के साथ ही रम्मत गायन की तैयारियां देखने को मिलती है और बीकानेर की रम्मतें यहां की उस मस्ती को उजागर करती है जो यहां के बाशिन्दों की रग-रग में समाहित है।

खाने के भी शौकीन हैं बीकानेरवासी : बीकानेर का आम और खास आदमी खाने का बड़ा शौकीन होता है। वहां के किसी भी परिवार का आप आतिथ्य ग्रहण करें, थाली में इतनी सारी वैरायटीयां आती हैं और वह भी इतने आग्रह के साथ कि आप मना नहीं कर सकते। यही वजह है कि बंगाल के रसगुल्ले ने बीकानेर के रसगुल्ले के रूप में अपनी अलग ब्रांड इमेज बना ली है और इस बंगाली मिठाई ने बीकानेरी रसगुल्ले के रूप में अपना एक अलग बाजार विकसित कर लिया है। बीकानेर शहर में स्थित मिठाईयों की दुकानों पर घूम जाएं एक से एक दिलचस्प वैरायटी यहां के मिठाई शोधकर्ताओं ने विकसित की हैं और उन मिठाईयों को देशव्यापी पहचान भी दिलाई है।
बीकानेर के हल्दीराम समूह ने हल्दीराम ब्रांड नाम से रेस्तरां चैन खोली है, जो कि जयपुर से दिल्ली जाने वाले लोगों के लिए गुडग़ांव में फूड का बड़ा सेंटर हो गया है बल्कि दिल्ली से वीक एंड पर इस फूड कम रेस्तरां चैन पर आने वाले लोगों की संख्या बताती है कि बीकानेर वालों का सोच कितनी आगे चलती है। इसी तरह नमकीन और शरबत आदि में भी बीकानेर की अपनी अलग वैरायटी है।
व्यावहारिक दृष्टि से बीकानेर भी ‘छोटीकाशी’ के दर्जे का हकदार
वैसे तो राजस्थान की राजधानी जयपुर, जोधपुर जिले के फलौदी को छोटीकाशी कहा जाता है लेकिन व्यवहारिक दृष्टि से देखें तो बीकानेर वास्तव में छोटीकाशी के दर्जे का हकदार है। इसलिए कि यहां के गली-मौहल्लों में न केवल मंदिरों और उसमें भी खासकर शिव मंदिर अधिक है बल्कि अन्य देवी-देवताओं को भी यहां पर्याप्त प्रमुखता लोगों ने दे रखी है। यहां मंदिरों में न केवल युवा बल्कि बुजुर्ग तक भी पांडित्य एवं ओजपूर्ण स्वरों में रुद्राष्टाध्यायी का पाठ करते हैं। यह अवश्य ही दर्शा देता है कि बीकानेर की संस्कृति अपने आप में कितनी समृद्ध है। फिर सबसे अहम् बात यह कि शहर के अन्दरुनी क्षेत्र में स्थित विख्यात श्री नवलेश्वर मठ के अधिष्ठाता व 32 धूणों के मानधारी श्री शिवसत्यनाथजी महाराज, शिवबाड़ी स्थित श्री लालेश्वर महादेव मंदिर के अधिष्ठाता स्वामी संवित् सोमगिरीजी महाराज बीकानेर में निवास करते हैं और उनकी कृपा व आशीर्वाद से यह शहर फल-फूल रहा है। उधर तेरापंथ के प्रणेता आचार्य तुलसी ने बीकानेर में जो सामाजिक-धार्मिक चेतना जागृत की वह आज विश्वभर में फैल चुकी है। अणुव्रत की अवधारणा ने जीवन का नया संदेश जैन धर्मावलंबियों ही नहीं बल्कि समूचे समाज को दिया है।

While my main focus has been on the tourism aspects of Darjeeling, over time I have gone deeper trying to uncover its life as an insider. So my findings have evolved with time and includes not only my experience of Darjeeling Tourism but also many insider stories, reviews and finer aspects of the hill life. Along with tourist attractions, activities, guided & self guided tours, hotels and restaurants, my stories are also about its people & culture, fascinating history & heritage, unique flora & fauna, weather, tea gardens and everything this gem of a hill town offers to the world. 

Just to give you a head start about the place, Darjeeling hill town is located at an altitude of 6,710 ft in north east India and is part of the West Bengal state. The nearest airport is Bagdogra and the nearest railway head is New Jalpaiguri. It takes about 3.5 hours to reach Darjeeling from both these locations by car. Although the area of Darjeeling hill town itself is small (about 4 square miles), Darjeeling is also a district and spans over a large area of about 1,200 square miles. 

The hill town was originally set up as a sanitarium or health resort by the British in mid 1800s. But over the years, it earned its name for its world famous aromatic tea and then with opening up of roads and Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, for tourism. No wonder you will see numerous sprawling tea estates in Darjeeling that produce world's best tea, as well as the amazing narrow gauge Toy Train which is considered an engineering marvel that overcame such steep gradients and curves of the mountains. 

Residents are mostly immigrant Nepalese (predominantly Gorkhas), Tibetans, as well as some Lepchas and Bhutias from Sikkim. Nepalese are mostly Hindus while Tibetans follow Buddhism. When you compare them with the people of lower plains, they look so different both in structure and culture. It's an amazing world out there.

Over the past few decades Darjeeling lacked proper developmental support and had seen random & thoughtless constructions and overcrowding which it hardly deserved. Despite that the charming, sincere and friendly people of the place have continued to strive hard and successfully preserved pride of the 'Queen of the Hills' as one of the best places for tourism even today. 

The town center of Darjeeling is known as Mall or Chowrasta, which is like a flat open promenade, a pedestrian only zone free of vehicular traffic and surrounded by colorful stores with backdrop of mountains and valleys. Most tourists try to stay near the Mall area to be close to hub of all activities, restaurants and shops. So due to high demand, hotel rates are comparatively higher in the Mall area. Alternatively you can stay a bit away, enjoy better rates, nature & views, and a location relatively free of crowd.
